Meals can be mindless drudgery. They are the bane of whoever does the household cooking, and barely tasted by those who consume them. But meals can still hold an important place for us when we want to celebrate a special occasion, deepen intimacy, or foster community. Jesus instituted a lasting meal for us to eat, “in remembrance” of him—but this meal goes a lot deeper than we can fathom.
