Are we willing to trust the person who calls out our imprisonment and offers us a way out? The cumulative force of Jesus’ “I am” statements leads us to the inescapable conclusion: He is the one true God, and the only one powerful enough to set us free from the slavery all human beings are under from sin. Whatever else the world claims on his behalf, he makes this statement: He is God, he is for us, and he can break our chains.
