What is Confirmation?

Confirmation gives students the opportunity to own their faith in Jesus Christ. Confirmation is not the “end” of one’s faith journey, nor is it equivalent to salvation. Confirmation students affirm they are on a personal journey to know God more.

Most students participate in Confirmation in the 8th grade but students in the 8th-12th grade are welcome. Our confirmation model will help students take greater ownership of their faith and engage with their parents through the process.

What are Catechism Teaching Units and Resources?

The teachings are spread out through the year, October through March, to help students and parents pace themselves to make the early May Confirmation date. The teachings will be videotaped and posted monthly on an online portal, Canvas, for students to watch at a time that works with their schedule. Students will then complete and submit answers to the corresponding study questions through Canvas, where they can be reviewed and any feedback can be given by our student ministry directors.

For each teaching, students are expected to attend a discussion group where they can bring questions, discuss with their peers, and further dive into the content of each teaching. Students are expected to complete the online teaching and questions within the month they are posted, before the discussion group.

This model allows students and parents the flexibility of watching the teaching during a convenient time (within the month), and it gives students the opportunity to receive more feedback about their answers and understanding of the material on a regular basis. Parents will not attend discussion groups with their students, but are encouraged to work through the teachings and questions with their student at home. To assist parents, answer guides to the online questions will be emailed monthly.
