For many of us, life is lived not only in a constant state of momentum, but a constant state of acceleration. The key to slowing down isn’t necessarily slowing down the world around you (sometimes you can’t!) but it’s learning to slow down your hurried mind. Learning to be quiet, be still, is key to living an unencumbered life even when you can’t do a thing about the pace of life. Father, your Word tells us, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” But stillness is a constant struggle for us. I confess that my addiction to noise, activity, and accomplishment keeps me from sinking deeply into you and what you alone can give me. Forgive me and help me, In Jesus. Amen.
