Over the course of history, God reveals more of his being and character to us. Although his action and character are clearly seen early in Scripture, his nature (being) is revealed much more slowly. As God finally reveals himself as Trinitarian, three persons—yet one God, we begin to understand just how sovereign and self-sufficient God is. Having everything he needs within himself (love, belonging, adoration, community), he is free to love us in a pure, self-less, grace-centered way, and we are free to love him back with no worry of attached strings or hidden expectations.
